Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) is a routing protocol that is based on an OSI intradomain routing protocol, and is designed for use with the ISO protocol for the Complete Sequence Number Protocol (CSNP) data unit. IS-IS may be used as the Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) to support TCP/IP, as well as the OSI. IS-IS also can be used to support pure IP environments, pure OSI environments, and multiprotocol environments.
