IGMP and PIM work together to subscribe users to particular multicast groups. IGMP is enabled on an interface whenever PIM is enabled. This is usually accomplished with the ip pim sparse-dense-mode interface subcommand. IGMP messages are sent with a TTL of 1, which constrains them to the LAN on which they were originally transmitted.
