The TLS protocol is usually used to protect transport layer traffic. TLS is an open standard version of SSL version 3 (RFC-TLS). In some cases, TLS may require modifications in the application layer. However, considering its widespread use to protect HTTP-based applications, it is a low-risk option. For additional information on TCP security, readers are encouraged to refer to NIST SP 800-52, Guidelines on the Selection and Use of Transport Layer Security: https://csrc.nist.gov/publications/nistpubs/.
