This chapter provided an overview of programming language paradigms: imperative, dynamic, declarative, and functional, and how they can best solve programming problems and scenarios. It briefly described some of the Microsoft offerings in this space, including IronPython and IronRuby in the dynamic space, and XAML as an example of the declarative space. We also took a deeper look at the newest member of the Microsoft Developer Division language team: the functional language F#. We explored how F# integrates with the IDE, and also a few of the cooler language features it exposes.
