4Irritation and Anxiety Are Contagious
Beware of the Emotional Vampire
Just like how the flu virus spreads inside an office, emotions can spread from person to person.
For example, have you ever found yourself feeling depressed when you were with someone who was insecure and pessimistic? Or if you had a leader who looked very anxious while working, did your entire team feel affected by the dull atmosphere created by the leader? Or if someone at your home was on edge, did you find everyone at home to be on edge?
As these examples illustrate, we can all be affected by what are known as emotional vampires. Those who have an emotional vampire near them need to be cautious. Emotional vampires are people who influence others’ emotions and make them feel as if their energy was drained just by interacting with them.
Emotional vampires lower the self‐esteem and energy of people around them by making them feel as if they are bad people or that their existence is insignificant.
In contrast to emotional vampires are positive energizers. They are people who make others feel happy and energized from just talking to them. They are viewed in a favorable manner because they increase the motivation of others. When a positive energizer takes on a leadership position, their teams become very activated.
