Relationships with Cooperation
As was introduced on the previous page, high‐quality connections are made up of four elements.
First, we have relationships with cooperation. The effect of the quality of connections shines through in adversity rather than in times of peace. It's important to be timely and considerate when people are in need of help.
Presence is essential at such times. In other words, it's important for supporters to be there when you need them. Being present in person can be critical to the success of the support. You may feel safe just by having someone you can trust in front of you. In that sense, it could be said that simply connecting from a far distance—for example, by telephone—is not as helpful as an in‐person connection.
Relationships with Respect
Next is to have relationships with respect. Whenever you interact with someone, do you act in a way that allows the other person to feel self‐worth (feel respected)?
If the other person is unable to feel respected, that's because you are not paying enough attention to them. You may be disregarding their existence or ignoring them.
