So far, we've covered the problems with negative emotions. However, they're actually not all bad. Negative emotions are necessary in order to live.
What's important is that you do not despise negative emotions, but that you understand the traits of them and control them in a way that they become a plus for you.
Though we have focused our attention on the negative aspects of negative emotions, negative emotions do have positive aspects as well. For example, feeling anger about something that has distressed many people can instill a desire to seek justice, with the positive effect of benefiting society at large.
Feelings of fear and anxiety can become an alarm to protect you from harm. The sense of urgency that comes from these emotions can push you forward and motivate you to take action.
Feelings of embarrassment may lead you to want to hide, which is a reaction to protect yourself from the criticism of others. But if, instead of running away, you put in the effort to think and act rationally, you will be able to adapt to challenging situations more readily.
