item of data which, in the absence of other information, is quite
meaningless. If as camp leader you were given this item of data -
perhaps over the phone - you would have to do quite a bit of work to
produce from it some meaningful information such as a route map.
Here's the sequence of tasks you would have to carry out:

capture
the data which gives the location of the camp site, i.e. obtain
the map reference over the phone

store
the data by jotting it down on paper, and
retrieve
it later on

process
the data, firstly by relating it to other information (i.e. data
