Office automation systems
The computer is the main item of office automation equipment,
although other equipment such as scanners, laser printers, and
modems are used, often linked to the computer. Where a number of
computers are used on a site, they may be linked up, so that messages
and files can be passed electronically from one user to another, and so
that hardware resources can be shared. A variety of computer
configurations are in fact possible, the main types being stand-alone
microcomputers such as PCs, networked microcomputers, and
multi-user systems.
