The executive summary comes by its name very logically. It’s a summary intended for executives who need a condensed version of the key elements of a lengthy, formal report in order to make timely and appropriate decisions or recommendations.
An Executive Summary Is Critical
In Effective Communications for Engineers, author Roy B. Hughson cited the study done by Westinghouse Electric Corporation entitled “How Managers Read Reports.” The study confirms that managers read the executive summary even though they may read little else. - Introduction: 65 percent
- Body: 22 percent
- Conclusions: 55 percent
- Appendix: 15 percent
