10.3.4.3 Reinforcement Materials
The tire cord and bead wire are the backbone of the tire. The tire cordand
bead wire are the predominant load-carrying members of the cord–rubber
composite, which determines the load-carrying capacity, the comfort of the
tire, and the dynamic behavior. Some tires, when parked, can develop a tem-
porary “set” in the rubber compounds and reinforcement cords, referred
to as a “at spot.” Five materials currently make up the major tire textile
usage—rayon, nylon, polyester, aramid, and steel (Table10.6).
