weft yarns. The arrangement of two warps crossing two wefts is
designated as 2 × 2 basket, but the arrangement of yarn need not be
symmetrical (Figure 13.8). Basket weave is characterized as atter,
and, though less crimp, stronger than a plain weave, but less stable.
It must be used in the production of heavyweight fabrics made with
coarser yarns to avoid excessive crimping.
• Leno weave: The stability of fabrics having open structure that are
produced from ne count yarns are enhanced by leno weaves. It is
a form of plain weave in which adjacent warp yarns are twisted
