All activities and processes manifest in time. Every type of endeavor has its own rhythm, its own necessity. When you cook a meal for example, you must be sensitive to multiple dishes arriving at optimum completion in their own time, according to their own process. Photographers need to be hypersensitive to the moment, with an awareness of both the present and an anticipation of the future as to when the moment arrives that best suits our intentions and our expressive aims. Photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson calls this the “decisive moment,” when the scene builds to a climactic crescendo of revelation within the frame.
