4.1 Organizational and Human Behavior
Organizational and human behavior are important concepts that shape the way any workplace works, including complex project environments. These interrelated fields of study provide necessary insights into how individuals, groups, and entire organizations function and interact.
Organizational behavior is “the systematic study and application of knowledge about how individuals and groups act within organizations” (Robbins and Judge, 2017). It covers various levels of analysis, from individual to organization, and examines elements like motivation, leadership, communication, and organizational culture. It also draws on different areas of study, from psychology to sociology and anthropology, to provide a better understanding of the workplace.
Fundamentally, organizational behavior seeks to explain and predict human behavior within organizational settings. This includes understanding how individuals perceive their work environment, how they are motivated, make decisions, and interact with others. It also explores group dynamics, team effectiveness, and the impact of organizational structure and culture on employee behavior.
