How to do it...

1. Create a logical device with the geometryShader feature enabled (refer to the Getting features and properties of a physical device and Creating a logical device recipes from Chapter 1, Instance and Devices).
2. Prepare positions for all billboards with one vertex per single billboard. Store them in a vertex buffer (refer to the Creating a buffer recipe from Chapter 4, Resources and Memory).
3. Create a uniform buffer for at least two 4x4 transformation matrices (refer to the Creating a uniform buffer recipe from Chapter 5, Descriptor Sets).
4. If billboards should use a texture, create a combined image sampler and upload the texture data loaded from a file to the image's memory (refer to the Creating a combined image sampler recipe ...
