Strategic assets and capabilities

Firms consist of configurations of value-creating assets and capabilities and the competitive strategies guide initiatives that build capabilities. The successful embedding of a competitive strategy should create strategic assets and capabilities for the firm. Strategic assets and capabilities give the firm competitive advantage and they are difficult for rival firms to imitate. In this chapter we explore the assets and capabilities that combine to create and capture value.
