Project and portfolio management offers great opportunity for IT. There is no reason that IT should not be a company leader in this respect. Right now that is not the general case. Excellent management and governance at this level is by no means widespread across IT units. But why shouldn't it be? Consider the high percentage of company budgets that are dedicated to the IT portfolio; that is a good indication that IT organizations have as many if not more opportunities to hone these skills as do other parts of the company.
