The Earned Value Management System
Because of the combination of the importance of critical projects, the ever-increasing speed required for completion, and the notorious failures in project management, there is a genuine need for dependable, objective information. Senior management depends on project progress reports and projections of end-of-project results to make vital decisions. The Earned Value Management System arose from these needs and is a valuable, objective process. A later chapter discusses possible implementations of modified earned value systems, but first let’s examine the origins, benefits, and deficiencies of EVMS.
