Are We There Yet?

Whew! Now that the project is complete and everyone is totally exhausted, one important final task remains: formally closing the project. No EVMS criterion requires a closing process—instead, the impetus is common sense and the desire to continuously improve.

This chapter deals with project termination. It is often said that “all things must end,” but that saying doesn’t seem to apply to all projects. Some old projects that should have been terminated long ago are still hanging around on the books of many organizations. On some projects, work slows down to an eventual crawl but never quite ends completely. Unless the organization is intentional, such projects may never disappear.
