InnoDB engine is a general-purpose storage engine that balances high reliability and high performance. It became a default engine from MySQL 5.7. Oracle has gone through several attempts to make robust, high-performance storage engines for MySQL, but InnoDB has been chosen as the default engine, as it matches the requirements of most of the use-cases. This engine was originally not part of MySQL, but part of a company called InfoBase. InnoDB engine is fully Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability (ACID)-compliant and accepts foreign key constraints.
