How to prevent MySQL from using high CPUs

Server and database traffic increases over time. The problems of the high CPU user by MySQL can be avoided, if the database server is monitored and tuned for performance:

  • MySQL uses different caches and buffer memory to execute all queries. As the number of records and the complexity of queries change over time, server settings must be tweaked or adjusted for better performance.
  • If your web applications are badly coded, no optimization of the database can solve the problem on an overloaded server. Monitor the MySQL slow query log and reduce the number of joins to gain performance.
