Preventing one-off operations such as table scans from interfering with frequently used data stored in the InnoDB cache can substantially improve the performance of your DB.
InnoDB uses an internal way to minimize the amount of data that will be used in the memory pool. The purpose of this InnoDB technique is to ensure that the most accessed pages stay in this memory pool, even if previous reads and full table scans bring new data blocks that may or may not be accessed later on.
