In-camera filters
Many cameras are fitted with two filter wheels that are controlled either mechanically, by turning the filter wheel on the left-hand side at the front of the camera, or by selecting the required filter position from a menu displayed in the viewfinder. The filter wheels contain colour correction and neutral density filters and possibly an effects filter.
The output from the red, green and blue CCDs is normalized to signal levels produced by a scene lit with tungsten lighting (3200K). When the camera is exposed to daylight, it requires significant changes to the red channel and blue channel gains to achieve a ‘white balance’.
