Using an audio mixer
The main reasons for using a separate mixer are that more microphones can be used and the operator will have better control of the balanced output between the microphones along with greater control of each microphone.

Small portable audio mixers usually have the following facilities:

PPM meters indicating peaks of programme sound; |

multiple microphone inputs (4–6 channels); |

switched power supply (phantom 48 V/off/T) for each microphone input; |
