APPENDIX A: STAGES OF EMERGE

How and why to use them

To fully embrace using EMERGE as a coaching model it’s important to understand not only what each stage aims to do but also why it is important to address each of the stages. The model is not intended to be used in a strict regimented way but to think about which stage is most appropriate to focus on once the conversation gets underway.

However, experience shows that to optimize a coaching conversation it is best to start with Expectations and end with Evaluate. During the conversation it is acceptable to move around the model until the conversation comes to a natural end or time has run out.
