You won’t be effective at analyzing network traffic without some basic understanding of network technology and terminology. Therefore, this first section will provide a brief review of some networking basics. If you are comfortable with basic networking, then feel free to skip this section or simply skim it. If this material is new to you, please keep in mind that this is an absolute minimum for you to perform network forensics.
