Deepfakes
Deepfakes are a type of synthetic media, often in the form of manipulated videos, images, or audio, that use artificial intelligence (AI) techniques to replace or mimic a person’s likeness or voice. The name “deepfake” comes from “deep learning,” a subset of AI that uses neural networks to analyze and generate data, and “fake,” reflecting the fact that the media created is deceptive.
Deepfake algorithms, particularly those based on deep learning, are trained using a large dataset of images or videos of the person being imitated. The AI learns the specific facial features, expressions, and voice patterns of the individual.
