Different disaster recovery textbooks will label this differently, but the content is the same: Now that the disaster is over and the organization has recovered, you have to find out what happened and why. This is where forensics comes into play. This phase is not necessarily about assigning blame; it is about discovering if the disaster was caused by some weakness in the system. That could be an act of negligence by an individual, or it could be a gap in policy. But if the root cause is not discovered and addressed, the chances of it occurring again are significant.
