Backing Up with the Organizer

When it comes to easy backups, you’re in for a treat. The Organizer’s backup feature is one of its biggest strengths—it makes keeping a backup of your photo collection easy, even going so far as to remind you to label the CD or DVD you create (Figure 8-8). Just follow these steps:

1. Choose File → Backup.

   The Burn/Backup window appears with the Backup the Catalog button selected. (The other choice—Copy/Move Files—is useful for quick backups of selected photos.) Click Next.

   The Organizer is just packed with information about your images. From captions you’ve written to statistics captured by your camera, the Properties window is chock full of interesting tidbits. To launch it, select any photo in the Organizer and press Alt+Enter, or right-click any photo and choose Show Properties from the pop-up menu. You get four different kinds of information to choose from, each of which you get to by clicking the icon on the top of the Properties window:

   • General. General information includes the photo’s name, location (on your PC), size, date you took the picture, caption (just put your cursor in the box and start typing to add one), and a link to any audio files associated with it. You can also change the photo’s file name here by highlighting the name and typing in a new one.

   • Tags. If you’ve assigned any tags to your photo, they’re listed here.

   • History. History tells you when the file was created, imported, and edited, ...
