This section discusses the ATM cell header structure. The pertinent fields are shown in Figure B-6.

DSL transports ATM cells to the central office, and then the DSL traffic is switched as generic ATM in the ATM network. Understanding the ATM cell's header format and the usefulness of its individual fields is a requirement for understanding ATM's switching, error detection, congestion management, and CoS/QoS support.
