DSL Equipment
Equipment is usually diagrammed with a strict division between the central office/exchange side and the customer premises equipment (CPE), sometimes called customer-provided equipment. This section describes the basic CO/exchange equipment and the basic CPE equipment.
Customer Premises Equipment
CPE consists of the PC or another Internet Access Device (IAD) and a CPE modem—either an Asymmetric Transceiver Unit-Remote (ATU-R) or a Symmetric Transceiver Unit-Remote (STU-R).
