For end-user devices, you can save energy in a few different ways:
1. Changing how current devices are used. There’s no capital cost involved
here.
2. Buying new devices that are similar to current devices, but more energy-
efficient. The new devices might be slightly more expensive, or slightly
cheaper, than what you would otherwise buy; the focus is on operational
efficiency.
3. Buying new devices that are a different class of devices. If you replace
desktop computers with laptops, you may spend more or less money. If
you downsize to tablets, you’ll almost certainly save money. Operational
efficiencies from the change should be greater.
