The broader green agenda now includes climate change concerns, which I’ll
describe in the next section, but sometimes awkwardly. You can meet greens
who are markedly unconcerned about climate change, and greens who are con-
cerned about little else.
3.4 Environmentalism and IT
The traditional green agenda targets resource-intensive industries, such as log-
ging; the production of goods, such as paper; and highly polluting industries,
such as the automobile industry. This traditional green agenda has not had
as great an effect on IT. In fact, IT-driven innovations, such as the “paperless
office” of the 1980s, teleconferencing, and telecommuting, have often been pre-
sented as a solution to key conservationist concerns.
