Mobile and ubiquitous computing is an essential part of computing today and will be so in the
years to come. The late Mark Weiser’s vision of ubiquitous computing, released to the world
around 1990, has seized the imagination of many. The trend is that computing will get more
mobile and more ubiquitous in the future. Perhaps 30 years (or earlier) from now, computing will
be synonymous with ubiquitous computing, that is, the word “ubiquitous” will no longer need
special mention; instead, it will be the norm.
To move forward, it is often useful, from time to time, to consolidate and review research in
