The three modes of heat transfer have been described in previous chapters and
correlations were proposed to calculate these heat transfer rates for certain situations.
For example, Fourier’s law of heat conduction can be used to calculate conductive heat
transfer if conduction is predominately in one direction or, as shown in Chapter 8,
more complex analytical methods can be used to compute the temperature distribu-
tion and conduction heat transfer rate in two- and three-dimensional, steady-state
