I’m a Painter (Temporarily)
United Technologies had a company that made printer’s inks.
They sent me a very heavy package with seven or eight large cans of ink and a palette knife. Thinking I knew what they wanted, I did this image with the palette knife.
They looked at it and said, “No, that’s not what we want.”
I said, “So, what do you want?”
“Just do another painting with the inks we sent you.”
“Well, I have my BFA in painting, that shouldn’t be too tough.”
I bought two dozen sheets of glass about 12x18”, which was about the size of the ad. I wanted to photograph the finished work backlit because I thought it would be more luminous that way. ...
