Idea 74: Five types of meeting
You will encounter and take part in five main types of meetings at work. It is useful to bear them in mind, because it helps you to prepare for them in advance.
1. A briefing meeting.
A briefing meeting is called by the manager to direct or instruct their team members to undertake a particular task or to lay down policy governing future conduct. It is characterized by:
- Giving instructions and information.
- Clearing up misunderstandings.
- Integrating ideas and views where appropriate.
2. An advisory meeting.
An advisory meeting is called essentially for the exchange of information. It is not a decision-making meeting as such. It is characterized by:
- Seeking advice about a problem.
