are socially irresponsible because one or more stakeholders in the supply
chain—customers, suppliers, employees, and/or investors—have to pay for
them. No agenda that raises the cost of a basic necessity like food through
carbon taxes, cap and trade, or corn ethanol subsidies can claim to be
socially responsible. The same goes for an agenda that raises the cost of
energy to heat, cool, and illuminate homes or to transport people to and
from their jobs. The destruction of working people’s jobs through higher
energy costs that encourage manufacturers to move offshore is anything but
socially responsible.
