Batch processing is by far the most common type of data processing. If you consider, for example, traditional business intelligence and data warehouse workloads, usually there's a fixed schedule that defines when an Extraction, Transformation, and Load (ETL) will happen. Often, this implies taking action on a relatively large amount of data at once.
