In the following diagram, there is a red element, a yellow element, and a green element that all describe events that occurred between 8:00 and 9:00 (let's say, UTC), as far as their users were concerned—these are the even time timestamps on the data. The time that they arrive for processing is on the horizontal axis:

If we want to compute accurately about the events that occurred between 8:00 am and 9:00 am, we need all of these events gathered in one place.
