Linear equation and the law of demand

Linear equations can be used to describe things with straight line slopes:

The law of demand states that as the price of a product increases, the demand for that product will decrease. That's because people naturally avoid buying a product that will force them to forfeit the purchase of something else that they value more. The graph indicates that the demand curve is a downward slope. The lower the price, the more products will be sold.

Building architects use linear equations to determine slopes of roof lines and Google Maps uses linear equations to tell you how long your trip will take.
