3.7 Conclusions
In the previous sections, we have covered the LTE Release 8 and 9 key principles. The principles introduced are mostly valid with the LTE-Advanced, with the Release 10 enhancements on top of this to improve the performance and data rate capabilities. On the architecture side the only new element part of Release 10 is the relay, otherwise the architecture is unchanged, and on the protocol side the changes are in many cases limited to the introduction of the necessary parameterization of the new Release 10 features introduced. LTE Release 8 and 9 are already an excellent basis for the network deployment. The focus in Release 9 enhancements was especially in enabling LTE voice support with the Release 10 and beyond LTE-Advanced then showing the direction how to improve the system once the data transmission needs are further evolved as covered in the following chapters.
