7.1 Introduction
This chapter presents the LTE uplink MIMO included in Release 10 LTE specifications to enable multi-stream multi-antenna uplink transmission as part of LTE-Advanced efforts in meeting the IMT-Advanced and LTE-Advanced requirements. This chapter contains firstly an overview of the uplink MIMO development from Release 8 virtual MIMO to Release 10 MIMO solutions. Then the changes in the protocol side are covered and the impacts to the physical layer are presented, while also addressing some of the design choices with uplink multiple access development done in connection with the LTE-Advanced uplink MIMO studies. This chapter finally concludes with the uplink MIMO performance investigation.
