It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

When your Pico receiver circuit picks up
the radio signal from your doorbell, you
can make it create any output you choose.
This can be additional to the receiver that
was supplied to you with the doorbell.
For the doorbell project, you can use the
transmitter breadboard you constructed
earlier, or a ready-made doorbell
transmitter button. I will now show you
how to modify the receiver breadboard and
the receiver sketch for doorbell use.
Upload the sketch in Figure
9-15
to the
Pico on the receiver breadboard. Then,
connect the transmitter breadboard
to a USB port for power and press S4.
