It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Clustering-based segmentation
K-means is an unsupervised machine learning technique of separating similar data into groups based on centroids. The key steps in the K-means clustering algorithm are outlined as follows:
- Select K data points as the initial number of clusters at an arbitrary location.
- Find the distance between each cluster centroid and each pixel and assign it to the nearest cluster.
- Update the averages of every cluster.
- Repeat this process by changing the cluster centroid until the total distance between each pixel and its associated cluster is minimized.
