its protocol data unit (PDU) at the segmentation and reassembly (SAR) level is shown in
Figure 14.7. Recall that a block of higher-level data is encapsulated in a PDU at the con-
vergence sublayer. This PDU is then passed to the SAR sublayer where it is segmented
into a 48-byte “chunks” so that it can be transported in the payload area of an ATM cell.
