Policy Distribution Using LDAP

The problem with using scripts for policy distribution is that a management tool must be aware of the different types of scripts that are applicable to each of the different types of devices in the network. For example, in order to distribute the policies for DiffServ within a network that includes routers manufactured by Cisco, Nortel, and Lucent, the management tool must be aware of the configuration scripts that will be supported by these three different manufacturers. In many cases, the configuration commands differ for different models belonging to the same manufacturer, and the policy management tool must be aware of these differences.
