An experiment was conducted to investigate the characteristics of an LS
as well. At the steady-state voltage, the common grounding and the pro-
posed method can reduce the lightning voltage equally well. However, at
maximum voltage, the proposed method can reduce the lightning overvolt-
age better than common grounding can. Therefore, the proposed method is
well suited for protecting communication appliances. The FDTD simulation
results agree well with the measured results. The FDTD simulation can thus
be used to study LS characteristics from a communication line.
