Figure 2.21 shows a statistical distribution of overvoltages for various line
lengths. In general, the overvoltage increases as line length increases. In
practice, a long transmission line is compensated by a shunt reactor, and thus
the overvoltage distribution differs from that shown in Figure 2.21.

Figure 2.22 shows the effect of source inductance on a statistical distribution
of overvoltages. No clear tendency is observed in the gure.
