8.6 FUZZY QUERY PROCESSING USING FUZZY TABLES
The most ideal property of any query processing system for efficient infor-
mation retrieval is the ability to handle regular queries in the form of either
quantitative or qualitative queries and fuzzy queries that are expressed with
ambiguous and/or fuzzy terms. Any queries into which fuzzy or ambiguous
terms are embedded are called fuzzy queries. The part of the query processor
that handles the fuzzy queries is called the fuzzy modulator, which applies
the concept of fuzzy logic to handle the ambiguous terms used in query
expressions. To make the query processor correctly respond to the fuzzy queries,
fuzzy logic is applied.
